WordPress – Change Themes
Script & Screenshots
In this video I’m going to show you how to change your WordPress theme.
A WordPress theme provides all of the front end styling of your WordPress site. Most WordPress themes provide: the overall design or style of your site, font styling, colors, widget locations, page layouts (or templates), styles for blog posts and blog archives, and additional stylistic details. You can choose from over a thousand free themes from the WordPress Theme Directory or invest in premium, or paid themes from a company like Elegant Themes.
To change the theme, click on Appearance, then Themes.
Here you will see all of the currently installed themes.
If I would like to activate a theme that is already installed, put your cursor over the theme and click the Activate button.
Now the Twenty Fifteen is my active theme.
If you would like to install a theme that is not currently installed, click on the Add New button.
There are the thousands of different themes from WordPress.org you can choose from.
I’m going to install the Mountain Creek theme so I’ll click on the Install button.
If I’d like to see a preview of the theme, you can click on the Live Preview link. It will open the customizing options for that theme with a preview.
When you’re ready for it to be live, click on the Activate link.
Now you can see the Mountain Creek theme is the Active theme.
If you would like to see the site, you can click on Visit Site.
If you don’t like any of the themes on wordpress.org, you can also buy themes through a 3rd party. If you find a theme somewhere else on the internet, they could add additional code that would give them a way to hack into your site or have other unwanted code within it. I would recommend buying them from a reputable company like ElegantThemes.com so that you know your website is secure. You can also hire a Web Designer to create you a custom theme to match your desired design. Click on the link on this page to receive a free estimate. You can also find a link to ElegantThemes.com.
To install a theme, you just purchased, click on the Upload Theme button.
Click the Browse button to find the zip file on your computer.
Click on the zip file of your new purchased theme and click the Open button.
Click the Install Now button.
Click on Activate to make it the active theme.
Our new Elegant Themes dot com theme is now our active theme. Another way to upload a theme is through FTP. I will go over how to do this in another video.
That’s if for this video. I’ll see you in the next one.
