Facebook – Creating a Personal Facebook Profile
Script & Screenshots
In this video I’m going to show you how to set up a Facebook Profile account.
If you don’t already have a profile account, you will need one before you can create a page. If you’re unsure of the differences between a Profile and a Page, please check out the Profile vs. Page tutorial.
To sign up, you will need to enter the information under Signup on the right of the page.
Start by entering your First and Last name.
Next enter your email address or a cell phone number. I usually use an email address, but a cell number is also fine.
Confirm your email or cell phone number on the next line.
Enter your desired password. Choose something that’s not too easy, like password or your name. Choose something unique so that it makes it harder for someone to hack into your account.
Select your birthday information. This helps you get the right Facebook experience for your age. You can choose who can see your birthday info later.
Choose whether you are Male or Female.
When you’re done, click on the Sign Up button.
Next it will take you to where you can invite your friends who are already on Facebook, to be friends with you. You can enter your email address to search your contacts through Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, or other email services.
I’d like to skip this step so I’m going to click on the Next button.
Here they’re going to give you a second chance to find your friends. You can go back by clicking the Find Your Friends button, or click on Skip Step if you’d like to continue skipping it.
Next you can go on a quick tour on how to control your privacy. I’ll go through privacy in more detail in another video. I’ll click on that so you can see how it works.
Read each slide and when you’re ready for the next one, click on Next. Or if you don’t care to read all of them, you can click on the Close button at any time.
After you’ve gone through all of them, click on the Finish button.
The next option is to upload your Profile Picture. Click on the Add Picture button. If you don’t have your photo yet, you can skip this step.
If you are uploading an image, browse to the location of the image on your computer.
Click on the photo you’d like to use.
Then click on the Open button.
It will show you what your profile picture will look like.
Now we’re done setting up the account. Let’s click on our Profile so we can see what it looks like.
Near the top right of the page, click on your name.
You should see a message at the top of the screen saying you need to confirm your email address to complete the sign up process.
Open up your email and look for the email from Facebook. Mine has a subject of ‘Just one more step to get started on Facebook’. They may change the subject over time.
Open up that email and click on the Confirm Your Account button.
After you click on the button it will take you back to Facebook, to a page similar to this saying you’ve successfully confirmed your email. Click on the Okay button.
Now you are ready to create a page for your business. I’ll show you how to do this in the next set of tutorials.
That’s it for this video. I’ll see you in the next one.
