Divi – Default Editor vs Divi Builder

Video Tutorial

Script & Screenshots

In this video I’m going to go through the difference between the default editor and the Divi Builder.
By default, all new pages and posts are created using the default editor. Below the title of the post or page, you will see a button that will allow you to switch to the other editor.  If you are currently using the default editor, this button will say, Use the Divi Builder.  Here you can see my editor is using the default.  The majority of themes use this editor.  It looks and acts similar to Microsoft Word with the editing buttons.  This editor isn’t the easiest to use when it comes to formatting and getting your layout to look like you want.  I go through how to use the default editor in the WordPress Basics video Series.  If all you’d like to add is a little simple text, the default editor might be all you need.  But if you’d like to add more than text, you might want to switch over to the Divi Builder.
If you click the Use The Divi Builder button, it will convert your layout to use the Divi Builder.  If you have existing page content, it will all be placed into a standard width section and a Text Module by default.

Now you can see the Use Default Editor button if you want to switch back to it to the basic editor if you choose to do so.

The Divi Builder will always have the big purple bar at the top of it so that it’s easy to tell that you’re using the builder editor.  This builder uses three main building blocks to create your pages: Sections, Rows, and Modules. Using these allows you to easily create countless different page layouts.

There are many benefits to using the Divi Builder.  Here are some of them.  You can save layouts for easier duplication on your pages.  This will save you time from recreating them.  You can also save items globally, so if you have the exact same content located on multiple pages on your site, you only have to update it in one location.  You can easily add columns and to any page or post.  This makes it easy to have different sidebars on pages.  The rows make it easier to get content to line up.  You can drag and drop content, making it easier to make the design look it’s best.  You can add many different modules with the click of a button.  This allows you to install less plugins.  And there are so many more.
If you do decide you want to go back to the Default Editor, just click on the button again.
But take note, that all your content will be lost, with the exception of some possible text that may convert to the default editor.  You will have to click the Yes button to proceed with the conversion.
As you can see I lost all the modules I created, such as the form, code, etc.

If you decide to go back, just click the Divi Builder button again, but reverting back will not bring back all the sections, etc. that you had created before.  You could possibly do a restore or revert to an old revision.  It’s best just to stay using the Divi Builder once you start using it so that you don’t have to worry about restoring, etc.

That’s it for this video.  I’ll see you in the next one.
